Jean L. Westervelt

Westervelt, Jean L. RAVENA Jean (Hoyer) Westervelt, 91, died peacefully Friday, August 23, 2013 at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albany. Jean was born on April 28, 1922 in Chatham to the late Louis and Grace Hoyer (Goodrich). She was predeceased by her husband, Howard "Howie" Westervelt; and her sisters, Grace (Newell) Day and Lucille Fitzgerald. Jean is survived by her sons, Bruce Kaiser (Donna Biscone) and Lawrence Westervelt (Darlene). She also leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces/nephews, great-nieces/nephews, great-great-nieces/nephews and cousins. Jean was raised on the family farm in Coxsackie, worked at Finke's Ice Cream, Ravena, H.P. Hood and retired from R.D. Marshall Co. in Albany. She loved bowling with friends and family, watching her husband race stock cars at all the local race tracks (Clear View, Pine Bowl, Menands, Victory Downs, Fonda and Lebanon Valley) and boating on the Hudson to where ever it would take them. After retirement she enjoyed just general relaxation in Fort Myers, Fla. The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving and compassionate care received from the staff at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Interment and a private service will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, South Bethlehem. For those who wish, a contribution in her memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, 102 N. Washington St., Athens, NY 12015 or to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1313 Route 143, Coeymans Hollow, NY 12046.
