John Waldron Obituary

Waldron, Father John F. COLONIE Father John F. Waldron passed away peacefully on May 2, 2017, at the Teresian House in Albany. Born March 2,1933 in Frankfort, N.Y., he was the youngest of nine children. He was predeceased by his parents, Genevieve C.(Gilligan) and James J. Waldron, and by his eight siblings. Father was a graduate of Frankfort High School, class of 1950 and was ordained in December 1958 at the North American College in Rome, Italy. Following his ordination, he was assigned as an assistant to Sacred Heart parish in Albany, and then furthered his studies at Fordham University. Upon his return he served as assistant at St. Patrick's in Troy while also on the faculty at Catholic Central High School. Additional assignments over the years included St. John's in Rensselaer and St. Joseph's in Troy. He then became pastor at St. Patrick's in Cohoes, St. Francis de Sales in Troy, St. Mary's in Oneonta, St. Joan of Arc in Menands, and Our Lady of Mercy in Colonie. He retired from there in 2008 after nineteen years as pastor. After his retirement, he ministered at a number of churches in the Albany Diocese, but mostly at Christ Our Light. He loved being a parish priest; and even as a young man never considered doing anything else. His vocation brought him much peace and happiness. Father Waldron is survived by his favorite nephew, Thomas Flynn of Delmar and 35 additional nieces and nephews who considered him their spiritual patriarch. He was proud of his Irish heritage and thoroughly enjoyed the annual family March birthday gathering and all the family reunions. One favorite thing was to call each niece and nephew and many of his grand-nieces and nephews on their birthday to wish them well. Over the years he traveled extensively on his own to Australia/New Zealand, Russia, Machu Picchu and places in between; but his avocation was the opera. He attended performances in many venues in both the U.S. and Europe, but the most special was the Metropolitan Opera in New York City where he was a member of the Opera Guild. Prayers for Reception of the Body into the church wiIl be at 4 p.m at Christ Our Light Church,1 Maria Drive, Loudonville on Sunday, May 7, followed by calling hours until 7 p.m. and evening prayer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the next day at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. John's/ St. Ann's Food Pantry, 88 Fourth Ave., Albany, NY, 12202-1922. reillyandson.com

Uncle John, Father John , I knew you all my life-54 years , family reunions Frankfort gorge, Herkimer diamonds, etc...I believe the Irish had family reunions since the great famine, so they can get together in good times , not just wakes. You baptized me and all 9 of my brothers and sisters (I think), weddings, parties, vacations, and funerals. -but as you know now when I HEARD YOU WERE SUFFERING I prayed many chaplets of divine mercy, rosaries, and communions, offered up sacrifices, plenary indulgence for you. I PRAYED TO st Joseph FOR A HAPPY DEATH...I KNOW THAT FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN JESUS, LIFE IS CHANGED NOT ENDED...you will SEE me AT THE WAKE, AND FUNERAL MASS. SAY HI TO MOM AND DAD, GRAMPA WALDRON(GUMP), GRAMMA-GENEVIEVE, AUNT MARGE, uncle Bernie, uncle bob, oh my sister Mary, everyone....now please pray for me , my kids, grandkids.....j.m.j. st Patrick ora pro nobis..in my father's house there are many mansions-JESUS-i know you made it to heaven

I will miss just knowing you were always there, although I had not seen you in several years, while life was happening.
I remember fondly the celebration of your first Mass in Frankfort. Your parents, sisters and brothers were just so very proud!
I am sad losing a such a special family member.

I'll always remember coffee hours and how Father would take time to sit with a different group each week to swap stories, and he had more than a few. I never saw him use a single note for his homilies, he was such an intellect, but more than that he loved the word, tended to his flock, and simply found joy in being a priest. I will miss his way with the kids and how he'd visit every Sunday School class every week, and his smile and charm. Be at peace, Father. Our Lord surely couldn't have asked for more.

To the Family of Father John-
My sincerest sympathy.
I was fortunate to know Father at CCHS and personally throughout the years, as a close friend to my Brother, who will miss him dearly ... Father John had a wonderful sense of Humor, Knowledge, and Irish Wit. Remembering the good times. May he rest in the Arms of Our Lord for a Lifetime of devoted Service.

I encountered Fr. Waldron several times in my life. First as a student at Catholic Central
High School. He was my 9th grade homeroom teacher. He was a scholar, a gentleman, and a wonderful example for young adolescents.
Later on I remember meeting Fr. Waldron at St. Frances deSales in Troy where he served as pastor.
Finally at Christ our light where I reminded him of our past history and there was never a time when he presided at mass that he did not greet you, I,t was clear he was in love with Jesus, the gospel and priesthood. The people of Christ our light and our lady of mercy were very fortunate and blest.
Thank you Fr. Waldron for your influence in my own life. Be at peace now good and faithful servant.
Pax et Bonum,
