Lawrence Colavita

Colavita, Lawrence SCHENECTADY Lawrence "Larry" Colavita, 75, passed away on December 2, 2012, after suffering a prolonged illness resulting from a stroke. He was born in Schenectady, N.Y. on February 27, 1937, the son of the late John and Agnes Lake Colavita. Following graduation from the former Nott Terrace High school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, achieved the rank of airman 2/C and served as a radio and radar technician with assignment at Kessler AFB and Greenland. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued his education at Syracuse University, where he studied mathematics and philosophy and received his BA degree. During his time in Syracuse he was a radio broadcast personality with WFBL radio. He went on to gain his master's degree and continued with doctorial studies at Washington University in St. Louis. He was an instructor at Southern Illinois University, St. Louis Community College and Washington University. In later years, after moving back to his hometown, he became a general subject tutor. He was an avid fan of film and radio and collected memorabilia related to the movies, radio and film stars. He also enjoyed watching professional and collegiate sports. He is survived by his wife, Grace; and a daughter, Wendy. He is also survived by his sister of Halfmoon and a brother of Indianapolis, Ind.; also several nieces and nephews. A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y. Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home 1550 Route 9 Clifton Park.
