Carl Blazejewski Obituary

Blazejewski, Carl J. ALBANY Carl J. Blazejewski passed away June 18, 2014. He was born on June 1, 1939, at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy. He was the son of Casimir and Mary Louise (Bielawa) Blazejewski of Watervliet. Carl grew up in Watervliet and attended Immaculate Conception School where he was the valedictorian of his eighth grade class. Carl is a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, where he was on the class honor roll and senior class president. He next went on to Mater Christi Seminary and St. Bernard's College, earning an associate and a bachelor's degree. He was a founding and charter member of the committee which formed the city's Babe Ruth League where he served two summers as a team manager. After finishing college, he taught religious studies at Keveny Academy in Cohoes and St. John's Academy in Rensselaer. During that time, he attended St. Rose College earning a MA in elementary education and becoming a certified secondary education teacher. He taught at Margaretville Central Schools. It is here that he met his wife of 34 years, Marietta Woolheater. They were married on May 30, 1980, at St. Patrick's Church. In 1978, Carl fulfilled his childhood dream and opened his own business. He turned his life-long hobby of stamp collecting into a retail store, B Trading Company, 114 Quail Street, Albany. With a great deal of effort and support from his wife, they supplied the Capital District and beyond with stamps, post cards and postal history. In October, 2010, Carl retired and closed his beloved shop. He continued to do appraisals in retirement. Mr. B. was predeceased by his sisters, Genevieve Shufelt of Watervliet and Alberta Simmons of Florida. He leaves his sisters, Dorothy Kennison of Niskayuna and Marianne Cable of California. I remember Carl very well. My husband and I went to a lot of stamp shows with Carl and his wife. It wasn't all work, we had a lot of fun too.

I think about Carl all the time and the smile he would put on everyone's faces when coming into the office. He was such a kindred soul and had a kind heart.

Carl was a very loving, compassionate, and caring person. I lost contact for many years. It was a shock to read his obituary a week after the fact. I am so sorry for your loss.

Carl quickly became much more than just the guy helping appraise some stamps; I considered him a friend, even knowing him for only a couple of years. He will be greatly missed!

Carl was one of those people who you remember and think about throughout your life. I was a student of his at St. John's Academy where he made a positive impact not only me, but so many others. He was a mentor, in the truest sense of the word.

He was kind, witty and had the best sense of humor. His laugh is unforgettable.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy to the Blazejewski family. I thought of Carl often during the years. We were boyhood friends in Watervliet and enjoyed a joint passion for baseball. During our early teens I would walk down the alley from my house on 25th, bring my baseball cards and sport publications and we would sit along side of his house and talk for hours. I lost contact when he went into the Seminary and I eventually moved. He was a good friend.
