Richmond Young Obituary

Young, Lt. Col. Richmond C. DELMAR Lt. Col. Richmond C. Young (retired) passed away peacefully on October 25, 2013. Born on January 2, 1923, he was predeceased by his wife, Marilynn J. Young, and is survived by three sons, Richmond E. Young of Rochester, Michael A. Young of Dewey, Ariz. and Steven R. Young of Voorheesville; and four grandchildren, Kaolin R. Young of Austin, Texas, Emery E. Young of San Antonio, and Michael T. Young and Erin M. Young, both of Voorheesville. He was a B-17 bomber pilot with the 838th Bomb Squadron of the 487th Bombardier Group (Heavy) stationed in Lavenham, England during World War II, and completed 34 successful bombing missions over Europe. He was shot down once and crash landed in Poland, evaded capture, and was returned to England to continue flying. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross, among others, during his military service. His working career was in the Bureau of School District Reorganization for the New York State Department of Education, from which he retired in 1982. There will be no viewing or memorial service at the request of the deceased. Donations may be made in his name to the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum, 175 Bourne Ave., Pooler, GA 31322.

My deepest sympathy to the family. It was a pleasure knowing Rich and I enjoyed his stories. He adored his family and his golfing pal, John. I looked forward to when they came and golfed at Stadium. Hit em straight up there Rich!
