Hoover, Barbara (McKeon) CLARENCE, N.Y. Barbara (McKeon) Hoover formerly of Troy, passed away on December 28, 2012 in Clarence, N.Y. Beloved wife of David Hoover; dear mother of Eric (Joanne) and Jeffrey Hoover; daughter of George (Chops) and Mary McKeon both deceased. Sister of Jack and Dan McKeon and Diane Mackey. She was a 1967 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and a 1971 graduate of SUNY Albany and was awarded a master's degree from that institution in 1972. Barbara taught 7th grade science at Batavia Middle School for 35 years. At the time of her retirement in 2009 she received the Ron Davies Memorial Award for her "Perseverance, Commitment, Positive Attitude, Compassion, and as source of Strength and Inspiration". She was an avid biker, skier, hiker and traveler. She climbed dozens of peaks in the Adirondack and White Mountains and traveled to six continents and over 40 countries with her husband. In retirement she worked tirelessly with African refugee families living in Buffalo, and especially loved helping refugee children adapt to life and school in the United States.
