Barber, Charles J. Jr. LATHAM Charles Joseph Barber, Jr., 90, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady with his family at his side. Born in Whitehall on March 15, 1923, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Jenetta Chieffo Barber. Mr. Barber was raised and educated in Whitehall. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy where he studied radio/tv repair. He was employed for over 30 years by the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles as a supervisor of the Motor Vehicle Examiners before retiring 30 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham for over 60 years. He was an avid bowler at Latham Bowl and enjoyed shooting darts at the Latham Knights of Columbus. He loved doing yard work around his home and gardening. He was the husband of the late Gloria E. Burby Barber who died in 2004; devoted father of Charles J. (Teresa) Barber, III of Colonie, Carol A. (Joseph) Pillsworth of Averill Park, Rita (Dale Bentley) Garzone of Latham and Patricia (Robert Morris) Brundage of Menands; brother of Patricia Boulette of Fredericksburg, Texas and Anthony (Jean) Barber of Whitehall; brother-in-law of Bev Barber of Hudson Falls. He is also survived by six grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the , 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Washington Ave. Extension, Albany, NY 12205.
