Charles Bub Obituary

Bub, Charles W. Jr. WATERFORD Charles "Chuck" W. Bub Jr., 53, of Mohawk Ave., passed away peacefully in his home Monday, September 20, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Albany April 4, 1957, Chuck is survived by his husband/ partner of 15 years, Donald Sawyer, formerly of Glens Falls. Except for two years in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. after high school, Chuck had spent most of his life in his childhood home in Waterford. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles W. Bub Sr. and Helena Maruski Fan. Chuck attended Waterford-Halfmoon High School and attended many of the local colleges, never getting his degree, but instead taking classes that interested him. At the time of his death he was employed by the State of New York with the office for technology as a telecommunication specialist. Chuck had worked for the State of New York for 31 years, starting as a librarian in 1979 at the SUNY Albany Campus. He was a committeeman with the Waterford Democratic Committee, as politics was his passion. He was a member of the Northeast Ursamen, and a contributor to The Human Right Campaign and the Empire State Pride Agenda. Chuck was a campaigner for human rights and marriage equality and a big fan of 70's disco. Traveling to New Zealand, Australia and England were some of the highlights in his life, and the on going friendships that he made while on his travels were very important, particularly June and Colin Whitehead of Taranaki, New Zealand and their extended family in Wellington, New Zealand, also Christine Griffiths of London, England. He also enjoyed his summer getaways to Ogunquit, Maine for it's wonderful beach and Provincetown, Mass., where he and Donald were married July 15, 2004. Chuck is also survived by his four brothers and their spouses, Michael and Sue Bub of Water-ford, Kim Fan of Waterford, Mark Bub of Clifton Park and John and Lori Bub of Delaware. He is survived by 14 nieces and many great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sue Sawyer of Queensbury. Chuck had many loving friends and co-workers, including Pat Paskow of Waterford, Scott Crossman and Terry Wilber of Ravena, Fred Ebert of Rotterdam, Jodi Green of Clifton Park, Lisa Banta of Latham, Beverly Close of Albany and his boss and friend Jim Burns. And thank you to his two favorite angels, Adrienne Bloom of Memorial Sloan Kettering and Carole Henderson of Gentiva Visiting Nurses. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Interment will be in Waterford Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-8 p.m.

Don,
Chuck was definitely a breath of sunshine in everyone's day and that legacy lives on, as does the special love you two shared. You were great together and never a dull moment filled with laughter. Chuck tried to build bridges for me and even in death he has brought me closer to the cousins I never knew. That is a special gift for me. I'm so sorry he has taken the next step in life and I will miss Chuck, but I'm so glad we had some special times together and also was able to share our love of geneology. Chuck always said you were his Rock. I believe you were. My prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Don,
I know there are no words to help you in your sorrow right now. I haven't seen you or Chuck in years. Being away for awhile is no excuse on my part and for that, we lose touch with old friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Chuck was a great man and you are too.

I've known Chuck since he was a young boy because of the friendship my mom had with his mother & grandmother.Even though we were not close in his early years, I feel blessed to have known him so well over the past 5 years or so. His journey has been long and hard but much many more memories of the good times will last an eternity. Thankfully he is out of pain at last. We are here for you Don....God Bless.
