Panichi, Dominic V. WYNANTSKILL Dominic V. Panichi, 91, peacefully at Albany Medical Center on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Born November 25, 1921 in Bristol, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Catherine Squillace Panichi. He was the loving husband of the former Olive E. Moreau who survives him at home. Mr. Panichi came to Troy as a teenager and graduated from Troy High School. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He worked in the family business, J. Panichi & Sons Coal Yard in Green Island, served as postmaster for the Wynantskill Post Office and was a tax auditor for New York State. Mr. Panichi was also the owner/operator of J. Panichi & Son Atlantic Gas Station located on Main Street in Wynantskill among numerous other business and real estate ventures. He was a school bus driver for the Wynantskill School District for over 25 years before retiring and worked with his son in the family insurance business. He didn't stop driving until the age of 90. Mr. Panichi was a founding member of the Wynantskill VFW, a member of the Sons of Italy, a member of the Leonardo DaVinci Club in Rensselaer a Republican Committeeman for over 50 years along with being a former chairman of both the Republican and Conservative parties for the Town of North Greenbush. He truly enjoyed being involved and talking politics. Survivors include his wife, Olive; his three sons, Kevin M. (Sandee) Panichi of Marietta, Ga., Donald V. (Cindy) Panichi of Watervliet and John (Tina) Panichi of Wynantskill; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara A. Panichi, who died in 1987 along with siblings, Peter Panichi, Anna Clothier and Rita Panichi. Relatives and friends are invited to a Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, December 22 at 10:30 in the St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Ave., Wynantskill with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. There will be no public calling hours.
