Ellis, Elmer ALBANY Elmer C. Ellis entered into eternal life on January 11, 2014 at St. Peter's Hospital under hospice care after a yearlong battle of colon cancer. Born in Shabuta, Miss. October 7, 1950, he was the son of the late Wilmer and Johnette (Carter) Ellis. Elmer was retired from St.Peter's Hospital after 43 years of employment. He had a great love for race cars, softball, and family. You could find him on any given day in the "Mississippi Hole", joking around and playing spades. Elmer's love of his home town and family was apparent by him driving to Shabuta every year to visit friends and family. Elmer is survived by Mary (Carter) Ellis; his sons, Dornell Ellis and Corey L. Ellis and two daughters, Lakisha and Sherry Ellis; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Rogina Lawson, Ceretha Lawson of Albany and Vonceal Ellis of Mississippi; many cherished nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and cousins. Elmer is predeceased by his sister, Maxine and four brothers, S.L., John L., William, and Ray Ellis. The viewing hours are from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., funeral service will follow on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at The Greater St. John's Church of God in Christ at 74 4th Avenue, Albany, NY 12202.
