Zuccardy, Francis A. ALBANY Francis A. Zuccardy died Saturday, April 21, 2012 after a long illness. He was 88 years old. He was born in New London, Conn. on March 26, 1924, son of the late Francesco and Anna Rose Pennella Zuccardy. He attended St. Mary's School and Chapman Tech High School in New London. Francis was a US Navy World War II veteran. He graduated from MIT in 1952 and received a masters degree in engineering from Yale University in 1959. His marriage to the former Evelyn Ferritto of Troy, N.Y. took place on June 9, 1982 in Rionero Sannitico, Italy. Prior to his retirement in November 1997 from the State University Construction Fund in Albany, he had been employed by several engineering firms in New York City and Connecticut. Frank also worked for the Electric Boat Co., Groton, Conn., both in the yard and in the engineering branch. He was also employed by the American Car and Foundry Company of NYC and Berwick, Pa. where he was in charge of an engineering group designing the first prototype mobile railroad car which could carry and fire a minuteman missile from any point in the railroad system. Survivors include his beloved wife, Evelyn; loving step-daughter, Claudina M. Anthony and cherished son-in-law Reid C. Anthony; two loving nieces, Susan Schwartzman and Nancy Burtis and families; also survived by his precious dog Puccini. Funeral services Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 8:15 a.m. from McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany thence to the Parish of All Saints Catholic Church, Albany at 9:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, April 25, 2012 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
