Pinkham, Helen (Carlisle) SLINGERLANDS Helen (Carlisle) Pinkham, 93, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2012 at her daughter's home in Slingerlands, N.Y., surrounded by her loving family. Born in Quincy, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Hazel Rugg Carlisle and wife of the late James Altimari. Throughout childhood, Helen enjoyed carefree summers with her four siblings at summer camp in Wolfeboro, N.H. As a teenager, she waitressed at the Wolfeboro Inn, her mother's bed and breakfast business. Helen attended school in Wollaston, Mass. and graduated from Chandler Secretarial School in Boston. In 1987, Helen retired from her position as an executive secretary to the president of Travelers Research Corporation In Conn. and relocated to Delmar N.Y., where she met and married Jim, her husband of 21 years. Helen was a gentle soul, who will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature. She was an avid reader, instilling a love of books in her children and grandchildren. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her beloved children, William Carlisle Pinkham and his wife, Wanda Mar, of Richmond, Calif., Carol Pinkham Lane and her husband, John, of Fishkill, N.Y. and Joan Pinkham Virgil and her husband Mark, of Slingerlands; her grandchildren, Erin, Sara and Ryan Virgil, Jennifer Lane, M.D. (Rich Mitlehner, M.D.), Major Jeremy Lane (Rose) and Christopher Lane (Dixie); great-grandchildren, Justin, Carolyn and Dylan (Mitlehner), Aedan, Marya and Thomas Lane, and Mary Lane. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Helen was predeceased by her siblings, Muriel Farquharson, Richard Carlisle, Betty Hoffman and Ruth Thompson. Helen's family would like to thank Dr. Gloria Guptill, her primary care physician, and the entire staff of the Community Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother. A private family celebration of Helen's life will be held at a later date.
