McHugh, James M. WATERVLIET James M. McHugh, 89, died Friday, January 11, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a brief illness. Born in Troy on December 14, 1923, he was the son of the late James and Catherine Daley McHugh. Jim was raised in Troy and attended St. Francis DeSales School where he served as an altar boy and later graduated from LaSalle Institute, class of 1942. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He later graduated from Siena College in Loudonville under the GI Bill. He was employed for 19 years by International Harvester in Menands where he met his wife Shirley and later by Caterpiller Tractor for 19 years. He then went to work for the NYS Dept. of Agricultural & Markets for 24 years before retiring at the age of 82. He was the oldest member of the Colonie Lodge of Elks with 42 years of membership and a member of the Watervliet VFW Post 729. He currently was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham and formerly of Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet where he was an usher and a member of its Men's Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowled for over 20 years at the former Thorne's Lanes in Watervliet. He loved to feed his birds every day and left two apples each day for the deer in his backyard. He is the beloved husband of Shirley C. Mullen McHugh; devoted father of James P. (Deb) McHugh of Newport News, Va. and Terrance M. McHugh of Watervliet; proud grandfather of Caitlin (Daniel) Bailey and Cheryl McHugh both of Newport News and Sean McHugh of Watervliet. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey Burke. The interment will be at 12:30 p.m. in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
