Varno, Joann P. (DeGloria) RENSSELAER Joann P. (DeGloria) Varno, 78, passed away suddenly, on January 25, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Born in the city of Albany, on June 1, 1934, she was the only daughter of Joseph and Mary DeGloria. Joann was predeceased by her husband, Robert Varno and their daughter, Michelle. A lifelong resident of the city, Joann graduated Salutatorian from St. Ann's Academy where she was noted for her love of dancing and serious approach to her studies. Joann was formerly employed by the N.Y.S. Comptroller's office, the College of Saint Rose, and retired from the Albany County O.G.S. Her favorite things included watching the NY Giants, the Lawrence Welk show, all musicals, going ballroom dancing, and teaching dance steps to her granddaughters. Joann is survived her devoted sons, Joseph Varno and Michael T. Varno of Rensselaer. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Emily and Natalie Barcia-Varno (Teresita), of Bethlehem, who will miss her so much, and Andrew Auffredou, of Staten Island. She was also the godmother of Jacqueline Wolfinger Labelle of Watervliet. She loved her cousins, Patrick and Helen Smith of Schenectady, and their sons, Dennis and Pat. She was the sister-in-law of Rosalie de Sorbo, Margaret Brown, James, Thomas, William, John, and Edward Varno of Schenectady. She also leaves behind her nephews, nieces, and friends, all of whom she loved. Funeral services Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
