Bendon, John J. STILLWATER John "Jack" J. Bendon of Kellogg Road, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2013, with his loving family at his side. He was 87. Born in Mechanic-ville on February 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Thomas and Hazel (Downes) Bendon. He is the husband of Honora (Callahan) Bendon, whom he married on October 2, 1948. A veteran of the United States Army, Jack served from 1943 to 1946. Jack served in France, Belgium, and Germany during World War II. He was a squad leader with the 28th Division during the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed by the B&M Railroad in Mechanicville, retiring in December 1987. While raising their family, Jack operated two gas stations and a restaurant in Mechanicville and Stillwater. He is a member of the American Legion, Earl J. Manning Post 490, Stillwater. He always had breakfast on Mondays with his railroad club. Survivors, in addition to his wife Honora, include their children, Tom Bendon of Stillwater and Mary Anne Bendon of Stephentown; grandchildren, Kristen (Jeff) Hyman of Champagne, Ill., and Matthew (Amy) Bendon of Lakeland, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Madelin, Nora and Lilly; brother and sisters-in-law, Agnes Ryan, Dave Ryan, Marie Callahan, all of Stillwater, and Fr. Zachary Callahan of Merrick, Long Island. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Ave. Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., at All Saints on the Hudson Church North, 895 Hudson Ave., Stillwater.
