I was the beneficiary of a double dose of the Mannheimer women in my schooling in the Bethlehem Central Schools with "Missus M" at Elsmere Grade School who introduced me to choral music and the cello both of which have given me great enjoyment thru the years, and then Miss Mannheimer as the model of perfection in our social studies instruction and as student council advisor at BCJHS. I'm sure that I wasn't the only male who developed a "crush" on her that lasted in my case well beyond the 8th grade. The enjoyment experienced in her classroom probably fostered an enduring interest in history and politics even as I pursued a medical career. I am indeed thankful to this day for my having been exposed to the superb Mannheimer mother and daughter duo. I cherish my memories of each of them.

To Diane and family-----
Your aunt was a very special person.
She was my 8th grade social studies teacher and neighbor.
Since moving out of the neighborhood, I have been fortunate to have many wonderful visits with Lois.
We have gone to talks at the library and we have had wonderful dinners together which she made with great pleasure. She would never let me bring anything for dinner.
I consider myself very privileged to have spent all the many visits with her.
My children remember being at their grandparents and going over to Lois' and playing with Trinket, her poodle.
Here life was a gift to others.

Dear Family of Miss Mannheimer, I work at the Bethlehem Senior Services Dept. and knew Miss Mannheimer as a former student. I will remember her with fondness, she taught with my father Eugene Lewis(art teacher and coach) and we (my family and I) all loved her, she was an inspiration to us all. To be all that we could be! She will be missed.

We are deeply saddened by our loss of Lois! Our friendship with her spanned 50 years: nearly 20 years of it teaching at BCMS and the last 30-plus years of it in her retirement. As a music lover and supporter of mine, Lois sang with us in the Bethlehem Pro Musica Chorale, which I directed from 1966-1973. In recent years we have enjoyed attending HILL classes and concerts with her. Linda and I were fond of her engaging and insightful comments on so many of the most current issues in those lectures including those this past Spring. As one of our mutual colleagues said, she was an iconic teacher. She was very committed to the responsibility of educating the whole student for their life in society. She was an active mentor to both students and colleagues. She devoted her after-work hours to many professional issues. She served as an insightful and intelligent negotiator to improve teaching conditions in the profession. In her retirement she was a dedicated volunteer at the Hearing Center in Albany. We give our heartfelt love and support to her beloved niece, Diane, and her family. We are honored to have known Lois!

She was a loving teacher at B.C.H.S. Always with a smile and tender way about her. May The Peace of The Lord be with you. A former student.

I had the great pleasure of having Miss Mannheimer for my 8th grade history teacher at BC in 1963-64. In my years at BC, K-12, she was, without a doubt, in my top 5 favorite/best teachers while I was there. Her easy style of teaching/communicating seems to have been taken for granted. I can not remember ever hearing any negative comments about her class. The classroom was so relaxed, I didn't even realize that I was being taught anything!!
