Bomzer, Rabbi Herbert BROOKLYN Rabbi Herbert W. Bomzer, age 85, of Brooklyn, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013. Rabbi Bomzer was a professor of Talmud at Yeshiva University, past rabbi of the Young Israel of Ocean Parkway, chaplain for the Depart-ment of Corr ections on Rikers Island, president of the Rabbinical Board of Flatbush, Brooklyn, chairman of the Rabbinical Board of Flatbush Political Action Committee, dayan of the Bet Din L'Garut of the Vaad Ha Rabbonim of Flatbush, chossid of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, scholar-in-residence for major hotel programs, signatore and evaluator for the Kollel Agudas Achim Smicha (rabbinic ordination) program, author of major works on the Kollel in America and the Chosen Road, as well as a major contributor to Rabbinical Council of America Sermon manuals. Rabbi Bomzer was a welcome guest with his Rebbetzin Leona to Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob on many occasions including the high holy days and was loved for his Torah teachings and his sense of humor. Services were held in Hewlett, N.Y. on Sunday, February 10. The Bomzer family observed their period of mourning in Cedarhurst, N.Y. Rabbi Bomzer, father of Rabbi Moshe and Rochel Bomzer of Albany; husband of Leona; and father, grandfather and great- grandfather of a loving and adoring family was interred in the Bomzer family circle section of Beth Moses Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island.
