Remele, Robert Philip NEW BERN, N.C. Robert Philip Remele, 85, of New Bern, N.C., peacefully passed away on April 15, 2012. A graduate of Bethlehem Central School in Delmar, N.Y., where he also earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Badge, Bob went on to graduate from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. in 1950 with a degree in mechanical engineering. After college, he went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Carolina. Prior to his retirement, he worked for over 25 years as a mechanical engineer in the aero-space industry. During this time, his accomplishments included work on the Hubble Space Telescope and achieved the status of licensed professional engineer. Bob was the son of the late Harry and Gladys Remele of Delmar, N.Y. He is predeceased by his loving wife of over 56 years, Frances Stark Remele of New Bern, N.C.; survived by a daughter, Terry J. Proctor and her husband Dana R. Proctor of Bridgton, Maine; a son, David S. Remele and his life partner, David L. Slater of Houston, Texas; and two grandsons, Cpl. Eric L. Proctor, USMC and his wife Toni R. Proctor, and LCpl. Kyle M. Proctor, USMC. Additionally, he was predeceased by an older brother, Kermit E. Remele of Cranberry Lake, N.Y., and is survived by a younger brother, Richard E. Remele, Severna Park, MD; and several wonderful nieces and nephews and theirfamilies. Bob was an active member of the Pollocksville Presbyterian Church where he was affectionately known as "Bob the Builder". He was also an avid wood carver and do-it-yourselfer. A celebration of his life will be observed on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Pollocksville Presbyterian Church with Reverend Collin Blair Adams officiating.
