Murphy, Sean M. SLINGERLANDS Sean M. Murphy, 22, of Slingerlands, passed away suddenly on March 13, 2013. How do you attempt to describe in an obituary the life of a 22-year-old friend, nephew, cousin, grandson and beloved son who has broken our hearts with his untimely death? Sean loved and lived life to the fullest. He treasured family vacations, the ocean, swimming, summers at Warners Lake (especially with the Saint Pius boys), fishing (where he would always win the contest), boating, camping, Lake George, dogs, home run derby, basketball, football (both playing for Bethlehem Pop Warner and later Bethlehem High School and rooting for his Washington Redskins). In the summers you could find Sean working at the Wolferts Roost pool snack shack or tending bar at the ninth hole. Sean was a trimester away from graduating from Union College where he took full advantage academically as well as socially. (Maybe more of one then the other). Sean was in love with his girlfriend, Caitlynn. She graduated Union last year and is working in New York City. He was enjoying many trips to Manhattan to visit her and take in all the city has to offer. Sean loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. He would often come up with off-the-wall one liners that he would repeat over and over and over. Sean was a brother of the Sigma Chi fraternity at Union College. This fraternity quickly became an important part of his life. His Union friends describe him as caring, nonjudgmental and loyal. I think anyone who knew Sean would agree. Most of all Sean was strong of heart. He quietly but fiercely lived, loved, and in doing so, touched so deeply the hearts of so many. Sean is survived by his parents who were so blessed to have him, Stephen and Coreen Murphy. His grandparents, who loved him with all their hearts, as he loved them, Loran and Maureen Miller. His grandmother, Mary Kathleen Rice Murphy who always supported him in all he did. His treasured aunt and godmother, Jacqueline Connolly and her husband Tom. His fun and loving uncle, Scott Miller. His uncles, Rick (Roseanne) Murphy and Mark Murphy (Kim) who always cheered him on. His aunt, Amy Murphy, who nourished him with her sweet treats. His cousins, Ryan, Kyle, Galen, Caroline, and Alexandra, with whom he had the best of times and enjoyed so much laughter. Sean is also survived by a large wonderful extended family. Sean was predeceased by his grandfather, Richard John Murphy Jr., with whom he had so many fun times. He was also predeceased by his grandmother, Carol J Murphy, who always gave him her love and encouragement. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mater Christi Church, 40 Hopewell St., Albany,. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the church on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment services will be held at a later date. Although the family appreciates beautiful flower arrangements, they are requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations in Sean's memory may be sent to Union College, Reamer Campus Center, Room 203, 807 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308. Please make donations payable to "Wounded Warrior Project."
