MacDonald, Viola Selenia ALBANY Viola Selenia MacDonald, 91, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late James D. and M. Selenia (Correa) MacDon-ald. Viola was a graduate of Albany High School and she holds an associate's degree in secretarial word processing, a bachelor of arts degree in social studies and English, two master's degrees from the College of Saint Rose in American history/English literature and political science/ international Studies. She earned a third master's degree in religious education from Boston University and additional master's in English and curriculum development from Harvard University. Viola worked as a legal secretary to the associate counsel for the University at Albany and was an educator in the Albany City School District for over 27 years. At the time of her death, Viola worked in the department of administrative services for the City of Albany. She had been an active member of The Cathedral of All Saints where she had been "President of Women", a Sunday school teacher and assistant directress of the Altar Guild. Viola is a member of the board of directors of the City Club of Albany. At the College of Saint Rose, Viola established the James, Daniel, and Selenia MacDon ald Family Endowed Scholarship, as well as the annual Viola Selenia MacDonald Endowed Award for Excellence in Hispanic Studies. Viola took a keen interest in gardening, reading, swimming, tennis, shopping and travel. She had visited more than 22 countries. Viola firmly believed that everyone should make a small contribution to something important to improve the quality of life for someone else. She was predeceased by her brothers, James, John, Ralph and George. She is survived by many dear friends, several nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 9 a.m. in the Hubbard Interfaith Sanctuary at the College of Saint Rose, 959 Madison Ave., Albany. Inurnment will follow in Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to Viola Selenia MacDonald Endowed Award (for Excellence in Hispanic Studies), c/o College of Saint Rose, 432 Western Ave., Albany, NY 12203.
