William Wirasnik Obituary

COLONIE William Anthony Wirasnik, 84, of Atria Shaker in Colonie, entered into rest on November 16, 2004. He was born in Selkirk on the family farm to his late parents, Mary Pribilovitz and Charles Wirasnik who both emigrated from Hungary. He was married for 54 years to Ruth Winifred (Hanson) Wirasnik who preceded him into eternity. Mr. Wirasnik served in the U.S. Navy on an LST during World War II. He worked for New York Central Railroad, later to become Penn Central Railroad and then Amtrak until 1983. Bill retired to Sebring, Fla. returning to Albany in 1999 to be near family and friends. He was a member of the Colonie Elks for many years. Mr. Wirasnik was a man of quiet intelligence who knew something about everything and there was nothing he couldn't fix. If we knew nothing else, we always knew he loved us. He worked hard all of his life to take care of us. He is greatly admired by all who new him. He will be remembered lovingly by his children, Wendy M. Wirasnik of Colonie, Lorinda W. Callahan and her husband Richard of Marion, Mass., Joel Wirasnik and his wife Liz of Seattle, Wash., James Wirasnik and his wife Denise of Kingston and John Wirasnik of Colonie and Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are his eight grandchildren, Maeve and Brendan Callahan, Brieanne Wirasnik, Melissa, Evan and Cody Wirasnik and Billy and Mary Joan Wirasnik. He is the brother of Mary Vadney and her husband Elwood Red of Glenmont, Alard Flick Wirasnik and his wife Polly of Windsor, Vt.; cousin of Ed Wirasnik and his wife Marie of Glen Gardner, N.J. Many nieces and nephews in N.Y., Vt., N.J. and Texas, also survive. Our heartfelt thanks to Royal Gay, MD at Capital Cardiology for caring for our father with the kindness and compassion that he gives to all of his patients; our dear friend Evelyn Williams who loved to cook him meals, and the wonderful people at Atria Shaker, especially Gina Garrett who always made him laugh. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Memory's Garden.
