Bryant, William J. PORT HENRY William J. Bryant, 91, passed away on April 7, 2013 at the Horace Nye Nursing Home where he had resided since May 2010. Born in Port Henry on August 18, 1921, Bill was the son of William W. and Anna (Joy) Bryant. He was a graduate of Port Henry High School and Syracuse University. Bill was a captain in the United States Marine Corps, serving on naval ships during World War II. He married his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Ryan, on May 15, 1948, at St. Phillip Neri Church in Westport. Bill was an entrepreneur. He and his wife owned and operated their business for more than 30 years. His business, "Bryant's," on North Main Street in Port Henry sold everything from coal to insurance. Bill also rented ice shanties and made and sold ice fishing jigs for many years. Bill was an active member of the Port Henry Knights of Columbus Council 384 for more than 50 years. He spent many years serving as treasurer, working bingo and helping at the chicken barbecues. He was a member of the Essex County Leathernecks and the Port Henry VFW. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church where he served as an usher for many years. During his retirement, Bill enjoyed fishing and kept fishing logs for the Department of Environmental Conservation for many years. He enjoyed hunting and staying at his camp in Schroon Lake, gardening and wood working. Bill made Adirondack chairs and tables, doll houses and wooden trains. He loved to travel to Quebec City, Canada with his wife, Liz. Bill was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth; and his sisters, Mary Brown and Louise Petersen. He is survived by his son, Bill, and his wife Nicky of Moriah; his son, John, and his wife, Karen, and their children, Leah (Mike) Mamone and Tarah and Ben Johnston of Grafton; his daughter, Cathy Leveille, and her husband, Bob, of Port Henry; and his daughter, Margaret "Peggy" McCue, of Clifton Park. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Elizabeth Leveille and Brendan and Sarah McCue. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Colleen Bryant of Port Henry. Bill is survived by his brothers-in-law, Jack Ryan of Clifton Park, and Jim and Ann Ryan, of Westport. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated April 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 12 St. Patrick's Place, Port Henry, NY 12974.
