Wurst, John E. ALBANY John "Jack" Wurst, 95, died on Thursday, April 21, 2008 at the VA Medical Center after a long siege with Alzheimer's disease. He maintained his propriety and humor until the end. Jack was born in Buffalo on April 20, 1913 and was the son of the late Ina and Edward Wurst. He was a proud graduate of the last class of forestry at Cornell University in 1936 and a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army for ten years and was commissioned as a 2nd lt. from R.O.T.C. and received the Barton Cup. He completed ten years of Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of lt. colonel. As a civilian, he worked for John Sexton Company as a district manager until 1965. Jack was past president of the Capital District Retired Officers Association and past president of the Capital District Reserve Officers Association. He was a member and past elder of United 4th Presbyterian Church. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 64 years, Jean Hildebrand Wurst and his daughter, Susan Beth Chilandese. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Chisholm, his son-in-law, Jerry Chilandese; his grandchildren, Tracey (Bobby) Turner, Scott (Afshan) Chisholm and great-grandchildren, Essah, Noah and Yusef Chisholm. The family would like to thank the staff of Alterra-Clarebridge in Niskayuna, especially Janiqua who cared for him with kindness during his last six years. His final days were in the Hospice unit of the Stratton VA Medical Center. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private.
