Balog, Mary H. WATERVLIET Mary H. (Klinowski) Balog, 91, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Glendale Home in Scotia. Born in Watervliet on October 2, 1922, Mary was the daughter of the late Michael and Frances Korzyk Klinowski. She was a resident of Watervliet for her entire life and was a 1941 graduate of Watervliet High School. Early in her life, Mary had worked for Cluett, Peabody and Company in Troy. She was married on June 29, 1947 in the Immaculate Conception Church in Watervliet to her beloved husband, John M. Balog, Jr. following his return home from military service during World War II. She soon after dedicated herself to her home and to the raising of her family. Mary was later employed by the Norton Company in Watervliet, where she worked for 26 years before her retirement in 1982. Mary was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Watervliet where she was a member of the Rosary Society and the Mother's Club of the parish school. She was also a member of the former Pulaski Club in Watervliet, the Norton Retiree's Club, the United Papermakers International Union and the Watervliet Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing bingo, shopping, playing slots, horse racing, senior trips, family vacations which included camping, trips to Maine and cruises. Mary was an avid NY Mets baseball fan. Mary's family extends a heartfelt thank you to the C-3 staff of the Glendale Home for their kindness and for the compassionate and exemplary care given to Mary during her stay. A special thank you is also offered to the chaplain, nurses and volunteers of the Community Hospice of Schenectady County for their care and support to Mary and her family during her final days. Mary was the dedicated and loving wife of the late John Michael Balog, Jr. with whom she enjoyed 46 years of marriage before his passing on February 1, 1994. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Balog Capone and Frank M. Capone of Saratoga Springs; her loving son and daughter-in-law, John M. Balog, III and Rosemary Farnan Balog of Clifton Park; her cherished grandchildren, Nathaniel, Andrew and Kylie Balog of Clifton Park and Sarah Capone of Niskayuna; her sister, Anne (Stanley) Byer of Watervliet; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael, Walter and Frank Klinowski. Mary's funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet and at 9:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th Street and 7th Avenue, Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend L. Edward Deimeke, pastor and the Rev. Erwin H. Schweigardt. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colonie. Friends are invited and may also visit with Mary's family on Tuesday from 3 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
