Frank, Edna M. (Larive) COHOES Edna M. (Larive) Frank, 91, of Johnston Avenue, Cohoes, died on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Agnes Blair Larive and wife of Michael Frank Sr. We mourn the loss of our matriarch, protector and defender. Edna was a strong-willed woman who did whatever it took to help her friends and family in times of need, or sometimes just get her own way. She could persuade with a beautiful smile or a piercing stare. Mike, the love of her life and devoted husband of 70-plus years, was no match for that signature pearly smile, jet black hair, and inviting blue-hazel eyes. She was no stranger to hard work, always happiest when she was lending a helping hand. During World War II, she worked for the war effort in a plant making radio parts in Fort Wayne, Ind. Most of her working years were spent in Cohoes garment district "sweatshops" as she called them. One of the shops made gorgeous evening gowns sold on Fifth Avenue in New York, some of which she had customized for herself. Her final days of working were spent as a monitor at Cohoes High School; there her iron rule made her an asset dealing with teens. She loved to socialize with card clubs, social clubs, bingo and family events, never turning down a party. She liked dancing and having a good time. She was proud as a queen bee being the last couple on the dance floor during the anniversary waltz at her grandson's wedding. We will miss her, but are joyous in her release from the torment she endured in her final years. She was unable to speak more than a few words, and partially paralyzed by a stroke. Not even that could diminish the power of her persuasive smile and instructive hand gestures. Godspeed, Mom. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Barbara (Paul) Santspree Sr. and Michael (Maureen) Frank Jr.; grandchildren, Michelle Di Carmine, Paul Santspree Jr., Michael (Lina) Frank III, Matthew (Heather Johnston) Frank, Melanie (Adam Jaskierny) Santspree and Joshua Frank; great-grandchildren, Corey, Jeremy, Emma and Connor; great-great-granddaughters, Eva and Natalie; sister, Agnes (Frank) Lanoue of Florida and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Corine Perrier, Violet DiSisto, Alfred Larive, Frank Blair Larive and Cecelia Larive.
