Cole, Thomas C. SPEIGLETOWN Thomas C. Cole, 70, died on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, with his family by his side. Born and raised in Green Island, son of the late Charles and Ruth St. John Cole, he has resided in Speigletown since 1988. Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy at a young age and served aboard the John Paul Jones (DD-932) and the USS Gearing (DD-710) and was a proud member of the Tin Can Sailors. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he served for over 20 years in the Army National Guard. His commitment to serving and protecting were very important to him and he went on to become a New York State Trooper for 23 years, retiring from Troop G in 1993. Tom was a competitive marksman, belonging to the Forbes Rifle and Pistol Club, the North Troy Stag Rod and Gun Club and the Pleasant-dale Rod and Gun Club and he competed in rifle matches as far away as Puerto Rico. A member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club Chapter VIII and the Harley Owners Association, he was a collector of classic cars and motorcycles. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, deep sea fishing and boating. He also enjoyed "going to the office" which meant stopping at Gary Vartanian's Sanitary Barber Shop in Watervliet. He was also a member of the Poestenkill VFW. Tom is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Holly Knauer Cole, with whom he just celebrated their 30th Anniversary in Carlsbad, Calif.; his children, Eric (Marie) Cole of Lansingburgh, David (Donna DiNuzzo) Cole of Loudonville, Andy Cole of Carlsbad and Katy and Kelly Cole, both of Speigletown; his grandchildren, Carson, Melissa, Sarah, Matthew and Ryan Cole; his great-grandson, Nathan Pasinello and was awaiting the arrival of another great-grandson in July. Funeral services with a celebration of Tom's life will be held at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Avenue, Green Island on Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery at 12 noon. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
