VanDeCar, Thomas E. MALTA Thomas E. VanDeCar, 75, of Northway Estates, beloved husband of 34 years of Gail M. Chevalier VanDeCar of Malta passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Born and educated in Troy, he was the son of the late George W. and Elizabeth Holland VanDeCar. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and earned Sharpshooter (Rifle), Expert (Carbine), 2 Letter of Commendation and the Good Conduct medals. Tom retired in 1996 from Allied Signal (Bendix) in Green Island where he had been employed for 30 years. He was a wonderful woodworker, good husband, friend and will surely be missed by all. Tom was a member of the American Legion Mohawk Post #1450 in Halfmoon and the United Auto Workers Local. He is the beloved husband of Gail; father of Gary (Judy) Conlen of Schenectady; grandfather of MacKenzie Conlen of Schenectady; stepfather of Dawn Castle, Kim Perry, Wendy Martinez and of Joanne, Kim and Steven Weismann; brother of Mary (Charles) Duncan of Troy, Patricia (Harold) Stata of Halfmoon, Linda (Paul) Gendron of Melrose, Walter (Alma) VanDeCar of St. Albans, Vt., Carol (Joseph) Mason of Wynantskill, Katherine (Ronald) Gariepy of Colonie and the late Delores, Elizabeth, William and Allen VanDeCar. Also survived by nine stepgrandchildren, four treasured great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Saturday April 19, 2014 at 9 a.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9 in Clifton Park. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford. In lieu of flowers, the family desires memorial contributions be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 139 South Lake Ave, Albany, NY 12208 or to , Attn: Memorial/Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1942, in memory of Thomas E. VanDeCar. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, Clifton Park.
