Martel, Lorraine TROY Lorraine (Gaitor) Martel, 81, of North Greenbush died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at home with her family. Born in Troy, Lorraine was the daughter of Aurore and Michael Gaitor. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in North Greenbush. Lorraine was a legal secretary for John J. Teliska Jr. for many years before retiring. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 46 years, Leo Martel, and her sister, Joanne Brownson. Lorraine is survived by her adoring children, Robert (Charlene) Martel, Diann Martel-Sanford, Gayle (Thomas) Healy and Chris (Bonnie) Martel. She was the cherished Mimi of James and Christiana Martel, Lauren and Thomas Sanford, and Nathan and Noah Martel, great-grandson Caden, and her faithful companion, Ian. She is also survived by several brothers and sisters- in-law, nieces and nephews, and very dear friends. Lorraine always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and her home was always open to visitors. She regularly attended the Troy Senior Center and enjoyed oil painting, exerdancing, traveling, attending annual reunions for the U.S.S. Point Defiance, dominoes, having a beer with her husband and friends, and her Saturday dinners at Verdile's. She enjoyed her traditional Saturday morning coffee and pastry delivered by "R.B." The family would like to extend special thanks to Lorraine's loyal friends and family, Peggy and Robert Beckmann, Virginia and Tom Burtnick and Audrey and John Hanlon for their never-ending support and love, and to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, particularly Penny, for the loving care provided to Lorraine. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lorraine's memory to Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at St Michael's Church, where a Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be 10 a.m. on Monday in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Light a condolence candle at wjrockefeller.com.
