Royal I. Smith Obituary
Smith, Royal I. RENSSELAER Royal I. Smith, 69, passed away unexpectedly, but with peace and dignity, and entered God's kingdom on April 30, 2014. Loving son of the late George I. and Audrey "Stewart" Smith of Cobleskill, and more recently of Daytona Beach, Fla. Also survived by Lydia Fernandez of Rensselaer; loving daughter Agena Fernandez of Rensselaer; daughter, Robin Smith of Gloversville; grandfather of LeGena and Jayson; and great-grandfather of ZaKai; sister of Diane "Smith" Jackson of Liberty and also Susan "Smith" Dodig of Daytona Beach; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Longtime loving and caring companion/partner to Mary M. Smith of East Greenbush; doggie-dad to Travis and Bella, Coco and Chief. Royal had a passion for his many cars, especially his 944 Porsche. He enjoyed his vacations to Puerto Rico and Lake Placid and was a fan of the New York Yankees, and especially admired Derek Jeter. Royal retired from the New York State Office of Mental Health, where he worked as a mail and supply clerk for 15 years. Previous to that he was employed by several businesses located in Long Island, most notably Grumman Aeronautics. The family would like to acknowledge the caring medical support Royal received by the many doctors and nurses at Albany Medical Center Hospital, especially the BWest third floor unit and also the BWest ICU unit and also his ortho surgeon, Dr. Jared Roberts.
