Urzan, Andrew J. THE KEYS, Fla. Andrew J. "Hot Dog" Urzan passed on April 5, 2014 doing what he loved most, snorkeling, at Mile marker in the Keys, Fla. He was always known affectionately as " Hot Dog," his nickname lived and died with him, there will never be another. He was the loving son of Alice L. (Oatman) and Michael Urzan. Brother of Susan (David) Carson, Christina (Mark) Urzan, Michael (Janice) Urzan and Walter (the late Alison Fisk) Urzan; beloved nephew of the late Olga Yarter; cousin of Joanne and Ted Malpass; also survived by nephews, Paul and Michael Dunphy, Melissa Bamford, Jeffery Carson, Candice Filion and Kristin Tobin. Born August 15, 1961 in Troy, he was educated in the Wynantskill School system, starting out in the Little Red Schoolhouse, then Lansingburgh High and graduating high school in San Antonio, Texas. Andrew was the sole proprietor of Urzan's Carpentry and Handyman services of Miami, Fla. and a resident of Florida for the last 30 years. In his spare time he worked the soup kitchens of Miami to help the downtrodden and attended as many of their funerals as he could. Andrew 's passion was helping the nuns at St. Mary and Martha Monastery in Wagener, S.C. He would make frequent visits to help repair and build additions on the property and just visit with the nuns. Mother Thecla of the Monastery last spoke to Andy three days before his passing and said it was a great conversation and he was very happy and told her he had found paradise after moving to the Keys. In memory of Andrew, contributions can be made to the nuns for help with their property at: Saints Mary and Martha Monastery, 65 Spinner Lane, Wagner, SC 29164. Contributions would make Andy very happy. Andrew's cremains will be interred at the Monastery, with a service on August 9, 2014 so his sprit can remain with the nuns through Eternity. A memorial for Andrew will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the home of his sister, Tina, at 3300 Sixth Ave., Troy. Please bring your memories, pictures and stories while we remember Andy.
