Galka, Mary M. SARATOGA SPRINGS Mary M. Galka, 92, former longtime resident of Palma Avenue, Rotterdam, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Wesley Health Care. Born in Mechanicville on September 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Angeline Scelsi. Mary was a cook at Union College, Schenectady for 18 years before retiring. Previously she worked for Martinec's White Eagle of Scotia. Mary enjoyed cooking, especially for her family and friends, and she loved life and family. Her husband of 50 years, Stanley Galka, died in 2009. Survivors include four children, Agnes (the late Ted) Lavigne of Clifton Park, William (Sonya) DeMicco of Latham, Janis (Larry) Strattner of Eureka, Calif., and Linda (Gerald) Dagostino of Clifton Park, along with seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Frank, Rocco, Joseph and Nicholas Scelsi. Friends are invited to a burial service on Thursday, May 22 at 2 p.m. at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. Please arrive at 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
