Velten, Joanne P. CLIFTON PARK Joanne P. Ellis Velten, 73, formerly of Latham, died on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born in Lowell, Mass. on March 19, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Walter P. and Florence A. McManus Ellis Sr. Joanne was raised in Watervliet and attended Catholic Central High School in Troy. She was employed by the former A&P Supermarket on River Street in Troy and later by the Golub Corporation at the Latham Price Chopper, where she was the assistant manager in the general merchandise department for more than 20 years before retiring. She was also a homemaker and resided on Vista Avenue in Latham for more than 45 years before moving to Clifton Park in 2011. She was a devout communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham where she attended daily Mass, adoration and was a member of the Young at Heart Group. She enjoyed her summer vacations at the beach in Salisbury, Mass., and camping at Lake George. She enjoyed gardening, reading and ceramics and was a huge Boston Red Sox fan. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond R. Velten Jr., who died in 2011; loving mother of Anthony R. (Carmina) Velten of Clifton Park and Patricia (Barry) Grimmel of Latham. She was awaiting the birth of her new grandson, Anthony Raymond Velten Jr., who is due July. She is also the grandmother of Richard Mustico, Caitlyn and Aidan Grimmel; dear sister of Walter P. (Trudy) Ellis Jr., Virginia M. Ellis, Michael (Mary) Ellis and Susan Ellis, all of Watervliet, and the late John "Jack" Ellis; sister-in-law of Joyce (late Sherman) Conaway and Eleanor (Octavio) Cazzato, both of Colonie; best friend of Florence Schlomberg and family of Clifton Park. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 9:15 a.m., from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, and at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, Latham, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow at 12 p.m., at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
