McCarthy, Carol Ann WATERVLIET Carol Ann McCarthy of Watervliet (nee Quackenbush), formerly of Clifton Park, passed into eternal life on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles J. McCarthy, she was the daughter of the late Merritt (Lyle) and Mary Sanzo Quackenbush of Watervliet and the granddaughter of the late Joseph and Barbara Sanzo of Saratoga Lake and Charles and Anna Beehler Quackenbush of Watervliet. Carol Ann was a graduate of the former St. Patrick's School in Watervliet, Catholic Central High School and Russell Sage College both in Troy. She completed graduate work at Russell Sage College and SUNY Albany where she received her master's degree in teaching and guidance counseling. Carol began her career as a guidance counselor at Troy High School and later retired from the Watervliet City School District in 2000. A lifelong resident of the area, Carol Ann loved her family and enjoyed their company. Cooking and gardening were her passions, especially when sharing her harvest with her children and grandchildren. She cherished the memories of spending every summer at Saratoga Lake and of many special family celebrations and gatherings. Carol Ann was devoted to her family and painfully leaves them to cherish her memory. She is the loving mother of Christopher McCarthy of Glenville, Caryn (Richard) Epps of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Amy (Timothy) Rudge of Halfmoon and Beth (Christof) Grzyboski of Clifton Park; cherished grandmother of Samantha and Colin McCarthy, Justin MacPhail, Michael, James and Danny Epps, Matthew and Christopher Rudge, and Stefan and Leah Grzyboski; dear sister and best friend of Barbara LaFleche of Clifton Park; loving aunt to Anthony, Marc (Melanie) and the late Nicholas LaFleche; devoted niece of Dolores Sanzo Riccitelli of Latham. She also leaves behind many loving cousins as well as her former daughter-in-law, Kim Restivo McCarthy of Glenville. Carol Ann's family would like to extend their appreciation to the remarkable efforts of the staff at The Community Hospice of Rensselaer, Dr. Resta's team at New York Oncology Hematology in Troy, N.Y., Dr. Reddy's team at Samaritan Hospital's Radiation Oncology Department, Dr. Parikh at Community Care Physicians, Dr. Sundaram at Pulmonary & Critical Care Services, and the special efforts of the Watervliet Police and Fire Departments for their professional and caring assistance during a trying time. Services for Carol Ann have been entrusted to Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home in Latham and will be held privately. She will be buried beside her husband in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Colonie.
