Martino, Elvera A. RAVENA Elvera A. Martino, 85, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. Vera was born on May 19, 1929 in Ravena, the daughter of the late Oraziantonio and Lucia Mollela Martino. Vera was a spirited athlete her whole life. She was an active bowler and golfer, and participated in leagues throughout the area; she was also an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed sports of all types. Vera had a passion for gardening and took pride in her efforts to coax vegetables from the earth. For as long as anyone can remember, she was a key part of health care services in the town, where she served as medical secretary-bookkeeper-office manager for the Coeymans Medical Clinic, beginning her work with Drs. John Mosher and Ira LeFevre. Most of all Vera is remembered for her love of family. She got great joy seeing and talking with her extended family, especially her more than 50 nieces and nephews, and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. Vera is survived by her brother, Anthony (Delores). She was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Morrell, Josephine Ann Whalen and Margaret Pagano, and her brothers, Fred and George (Pat). The family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice Inn for the wonderful care and offer a special thank you to Virginia, AJ and Sarah Morrow, Don Persico, Rocco Persico and Barbara Categna for their help and attention. Calling hours will be held at St. Patrick's Church on June 17, 2014, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Coeymans. In lieu of flowers, contribution in memory of Vera may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 21 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
