Plonka, Stephen M. LATHAM Stephen M. Plonka, 89, passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2014. Stephen was born in Witherbee. He was the son of the late Frank and Sofia Plonka. Stephen proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He attended Albany Business College and it was there that he met his wife, the former Frances E. Hacker, and together they enjoyed 65 years of marriage. He was retired from the New York State Department of Labor and helped co-found the American Little League Ball Park. He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances E. Plonka; loving children, Michael and Mary Beth (Dwyer) Plonka and Karen Tartaglia; cherished grandchildren; Robert and Erin Plonka, Julie and Eric Snide, and Nicholas Tartaglia; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Duffy; and special friend Robert "Pee Wee" Williams. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, John Plonka and Mary Rourk. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at 7 p.m., in the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Friends are invited to attend the service and may also visit with Stephen's family on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. The cortege will assemble at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. Interment will take place in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Stephen's memory to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 129 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110.
