Bentzen, Norman MELROSE Norman M. Bentzen, 95, died on Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Born in Troy on July 4, 1918, he was the son of the late W. Thorvald and Anna Petersen Bentzen. Mr. Bentzen was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School. He served as a staff sergeant for the US Army in the 87th Infantry Division during World War II in the European Theater. He was employed for John L. Thompson & Co. for over 32 years as a pharmaceutical salesman before retiring. He was a member of the Danish Lutheran Church for many years. Over the course of twenty years, he was elected many times to the Lansingburgh Board of Education. He was a 48-year member of the Mechanicville Golf Club and helped organize the Veterans of Lansingburgh, serving as it's first vice president. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Miller Bentzen; loving father of Karl C. (Ann) Bentzen of Melrose, and the late Peter N. (Elizabeth) Bentzen and Susan E. (Jeffrey) Blackwell. He was the brother of the late Karl, Harlan, Richard, and Irwin Bentzen, Doris Geise, and Carolyn Moekle. He is survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving longtime companion, Hope Mealy Knight of Malta. Funeral services are private for the convenience of the family. The family would like to extend deepest gratitude to Wesley Health Care Center, 3 Hathorne, and especially to Julie Alsante and her knowledgeable staff, for the wonderful, compassionate care they provided to Norman.
