Travis, Thomas Eric AVON, Conn. Thomas Eric Travis, 49, born on October 6, 1964, in Houston, died suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday night, June 28, 2014, at Hartford Hospital. Eric attended grade schools in Maryland and London, England, and graduated from William Paterson High School in New Jersey. He was currently attending Tunxis Community College in Connecticut. Eric moved to Avon in 1992 with his parents, Frank and Eleanor Travis. Eric led a rewarding life with many wonderful moments and experiences. He traveled extensively throughout his life and lived internationally for a number of years in his youth. He loved to spend summer months at Fripp Island in South Carolina and winters hiking and skiing in Aspen, Colo. He attended numerous concerts, galas, plays and festivals and immersed himself in both southern and Texan cultures, grits being one of his favorite classic dishes that he enjoyed with his now-deceased uncle Wally Elliott. He formed a great many bonds and friendships here in Avon and could often be found out on the golf course with good friend John Murphy enjoying life and good conversation. He worked for many years in the maintenance department at Wagner Ford. He participated in many local organizations, especially Asylum Hill Congregational Church, the Country Club of Farmington and The Learning Incentive, where he most recently had the opportunity and truly rewarding experience to connect with and mentor students, under the guidance of longtime supporter and friend, Cynthia Cordes. He was adored and loved by his parents and family and is now reunited with his mother Eleanor, who passed away more than 11 years ago and shared a special bond with Eric. Besides his father, J. Frank Travis, and his father's significant other, Sharon Griffiths Rizikow, Eric is survived by his brother, J. Gregory Travis and his wife Karen A. Lazar living in Saratoga Springs and their three children, Eric's loving nieces and nephew, Brooke Allyson Travis, Grant James Travis, and Caroline Ruth Travis; his aunt and uncle, Cynthia and Dr. Luther Travis; his aunt Margie Elliott; his uncle Andrew Jackson and his late wife Joan; and numerous caring cousins. Eric will be sorely missed. The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014, beginning with calling hours from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, Conn.
