Nicholas, Thomas A. TROY Thomas A. Nicholas, 88, a Speigletown resident, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Watervliet, he was the son of the late Stephen Nicholas and Elizabeth Tzibizides Nicholas, and beloved husband of Angeline Triantafillou Nicholas of Speigletown. Raised and educated in Watervliet, he was a graduate of Watervliet High School and New York State Teachers College (SUNY-Albany). Mr. Nicholas was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II. Tom was a business teacher at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Senior High School for 25 years before retiring in 1981. Mr. Nicholas was also co-proprietor with his brother Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers Service Station on Route 40 for many years. He enjoyed studying and investing in the stock market during his free time. He was a member of St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, Troy. Survivors, in addition to his wife Angeline, include his daughter, Stephanie E. Houser (Bruce) of Speigletown; he was the beloved Papou to Alexia Houser of Buffalo and Dimitra Houser (Isa Hunter) of Troy; two brothers, Nicholas Nicholas (Barbara), Edward Nicholas (Victoria), all of Speigletown. Thomas was predeceased by his brother Paul Nicholas, and two sisters, Helen Amanitides and Mary Kalogridis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 7, 2014, at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, 909 River St., Troy, with Fr. Emmanuel E. Mantzouris officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Belle Avenue, Troy. A calling hour will be held on Monday, from 10 to 11 a.m., at church prior to services.
