Sgroi, John A. RAVENA John A. Sgroi, 89, passed away at home on July 10, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Ravena, son of the late Phillip and Carrie Sgroi, and lived there all his life. John was an avid bowler, enjoyed going to the Saratoga Race Course and was a big Yankees fan. In 1984, John retired from the railroad after 47 years of service. Survivors include his sisters-in-law, Ann Sgroi and Jean Sgroi; and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his sister Frances Bottachiari and brothers, Carmen and Dominick Sgroi. John's family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Community Hospice of Albany for the compassion and care to John and a special thanks to Richard and Mary Powell for their help and kindness. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m., on Monday, July 14, 2014, at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Coeymans.
