Davies, Jane E. ALBANY Jane Elizabeth Davies passed from this life on July 13, 2014. She was born on September 15, 1917 to Edgar D. and Lena May Baker in Bridgeport, Conn. She lived her early years in Pittsfield, Mass., where she graduated from the liberal arts course at Pittsfield High School. Following two years of business education, she held managerial positions in the private sector. In 1949 she married Acton R. Davies and became a homemaker and volunteer. Jane believed religion and the environment were basic and related areas for human concern and involvement. Accordingly she served governing boards of religious and environmental organizations, emphasizing their financial responsibility to the membership. Jane felt that democracy requires ongoing citizen participation. For many years she followed the issues and candidate qualifications in her town, becoming convinced regional planning is needed to provide the skills and abilities needed to more adequately serve the public sector. During this time she was appointed to the Citizen Advisory Committee for the drafting of the design of the Schodack Island State Park, now located on the east shore of the Hudson River. She was appointed representative of the environmental organization, The New York State Women's Joint Legislative Forum, where for several years she chaired its first Conservation Committee. Other activities in which Jane believed and where she served were the religious sponsored Inner-City Coffee House and The Community Garden. The Red Cross bloodmobiles provided the opportunity for the training of volunteer team members. She worked for 13 years with the bloodmobiles and became a donor during that period. Jane greatly enjoyed sharing with her husband their mutual interests; viewing art, hiking, climbing many Adirondack high peaks, canoeing and skiing. She became an early alpine skier while living in the Berkshires, where one of the country's first ski centers was developed. Her other activities of interest were gardening and handiwork. Jane was predeceased in 1994 by her husband of 45 years, Acton R. Davies. She is survived by herdedicated companion and caregiver, Jean DiNapoli of Slingerlands. There will be a private memorial service. Condolence page at wjlyonsfuneralhome.com.
