Saunders, Irene P. WYNANTSKILL Irene Kelondis Saunders, 89, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Van Rensselaer Manor surrounded by her family. Born in Schaghticoke, she was the daughter of the late Angelo Kelondis and Esther Lesson Kelondis and wife of the late William Saunders, who died in 1988. Raised and educated in Schaghticoke, she was a graduate of Schaghticoke High School. Irene was a supervisor with the New York State Department of Taxation for 15 years. A gifted cook and baker, she ran her family catering business for 25 years. She also ran the Stillwater Marina with her husband for many years. Irene was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, and they were a source of deep joy to her. Her generosity and exuberance for life will be missed by all who knew her. She was an avid cook, gardener and birdwatcher. Survivors include her two daughters, Amy Quackenbush (Shane) of Brunswick and Michele Saunders of Wynantskill; five grandchildren, Lindsey, Emily, Mia, James and Adam; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Saunders of Waterford; her brother, Robert Kelondis of Easton; her two sisters, Barbara Myers of Newport, R.I., and Rita Ratelle of Schaghticoke; special family friend Joseph Graziane of Plattsburgh and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Irene was predeceased by her son, William A. Saunders III; her sister, Esther Alma Wise and her brother, Frederick Kelondis. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Ave., Wynantskill. Calling hours will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., prior to Mass at St. Jude the Apostle Church. Irene will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with her late husband. Arrangements by the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, 8-109th St., Lansingburgh.
