Byrne, Claire M. MECHANICVILLE Claire M. Byrne, former longtime resident of Washington Street, Hemstreet Park, died at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland on July 26, 2014, just five days before her 100th birthday. Born in Mechanicville on July 31, 1914, Mrs. Byrne was the daughter of the late James and Julia Dugan Hipwell. She was a 1933 graduate of Mechanicville High School. Mrs. Byrne was a hairdresser, owning her own shop with her late sister, Bernadine Hipwell Connolly, and she was a homemaker. She was a parishioner of St. Paul Church in Mechanicville. Survivors include three of her four children and their spouses, Carolyn Byrne and her husband Winsor Lott of Albany; Larry Byrne of Cairo, Ga.; and Kevin Byrne and his wife Ramona of Ephrata, Pa. She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Lynn Byrne of Clifton Park, and Cathy Byrne of Jamestown; grandchildren, Beth Radio, Laurie Adams, Jennefer Prezezdziecki, Bridget Brower, Brian, Stephen, Timothy, Andrew, Jason, Ryan, and Derek Byrne; great-grandchildren, Ben and Jessica Radio, Lily, Logan, and Londyn Brower, and Maggie and Eli Byrne; along with nieces and nephews. Mrs. Byrne was predeceased by Paul Byrne, her husband of 64 years; her son Peter, who died May 13, 2013; her brothers, James, Charles (Clara), Matthew (Helen), William (Mary), Paul (Jane), Hugh (Philomena), and by her sisters, Catherine Hipwell, Marion (Edward) Byrne, and Bernadine (James) Connolly. The Mass and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family, with interment at St. Paul's Cemetery, Mechanicville. The family wishes to thank all the staff of the Fatima Unit at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for the outstanding and loving care of Claire during the last year of her life.
