Weinman, Robert L. Jr. ALBANY Robert L. Weinman Jr., 85, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Robert and Marie Josephine Stark Weinman. Bob started building houses and apartments right after he graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1947. Starting as a helper in the company owned by his father and uncle, he soon rose to partner because of his skill and they owed him so much in back wages. This company built houses and apartments, and at one time had more than 100 rental units in Albany. But Bob was much more than the typical landlord. He developed personal relationships with many tenants and cared for them as true friends. His blue truck could be spotted daily checking on people and places. Bob was also devoted to Blessed Sacrament Church. Many of the changes that occurred moving the altar, the new Sacristy, Baptismal area and a coat of paint were done by him, his sons and cousins over the years. One of his best friends, Father Bradley, found a willing and able partner when things needed to be fixed in the church. With five boys to raise, Little League baseball was a mandatory stop along life's path. Bob was one of the original board members of Westland Hills Little League. He built the original concession stand in 1975, and was always on call for repairs. When Little League was done, he started his next passion gardening. Tomatoes and raspberries are Bob's legacy to his kids as they have all picked up the habit and will continue the Miracle Gro routine in his memory. Stone walls were needed to contain flowers and veggies so Bob built lots of them. He also passed on his love of music and work ethic encouraging us to always do our best. Bob was the beloved husband of 60 years of Mary Anne Engel Weinman; father of Robert L. Weinman III (Theresa), Terry Weinman (Michael Franchini), Lynn Mele (Gary), Bill Weinman (Connie), Bernard Weinman and Greg Weinman (Neicy Nagengast); grandfather of Gregory, Marisa and Robert, Matthew, Robert, Sara, Nicole, and Christopher; great-grandfather of Mason and Sienna. Brother of Lucile Moriarty, Marie Kelly and the late Lois Weinman. He was predeceased by his son Stephen and daughter Tina (his best friend). The family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter's Hospital and AMC Family Practice Group for the professional care and compassion shown to Bob. Our lasting memory of Bob will be that of a man who worked harder than anyone else, who had more genuine friends than anybody else and who was a good, true friend who could be counted on to help others when they were in need.
