Sgroi, Arthur M. Sr. SCHODACK Arthur M. Sgroi Sr., 92, of Schodack, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on his 69th wedding anniversary, Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was the son of the late Salvatore and Theresa (Gallo) Sgroi and was predeceased by his brothers, Sam, Joseph and Vince Sgroi and sisters, Dora Cardona and Mary Cardona. Mr. Sgroi was a lifelong grocery store manager, retiring from Albany Public Markets in 1975. He enjoyed dancing, gardening and the NY Yankees but his special love was for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Castleton. Art is survived by his wife of 69 years, Leona Battisti Sgroi; his son, Arthur M. Sgroi Jr. (Kim) of Schodack Landing; two daughters, Bonnie Demianczyk (Steve) of Homosassa, Fla. and Judy Dunn (James DeMasi, MD) of Guilderland, N.Y.; three sisters, Grace Cataldo, Muffalda Harting and Anna Dimasio; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Our family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. William Caramore, Hospice workers, Maggie, Pat, Jessie, Denise, Joanne, Judy, Don Paul, Holly, the loving volunteers from Sacred Heart Church and all our friends and neighbors whose help and support was so helpful. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church, 3 Catholic Way, Castleton, N.Y. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, Thursday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment, New Sacred Heart Cemetery. Contributions, in memory of Arthur M. Sgroi Sr., may be made to Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
