Tooley, Christine S. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. Christine Marie Stuart Tooley, 85, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2010 in Florham Park. She was born on May 7, 1925 in Albany, N.Y., daughter of the late Emma L. Couse and James Stuart. Christine graduated from Albany High School in 1942. She worked for the New York Telephone Company and, later, she administered the welfare and pension fund of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #724, until her retirement in 1987. On June 2, 1946, Christine was united in marriage to Ralph George Tooley at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Albany, N.Y., where she and Ralph were members. Two gifts Christine shared with the world were keen intelligence and an easy sense of humor. She enjoyed singing with the musical community around her, though her own bright talents were dance and creative writing. Chris was a faithful member of Emmanuel, a forthright champion of human rights, and a staunch advocate of common sense. As a career woman, Chris was a pioneer in working beyond the home, which she did to assure her children's educations. Chris loved to read; she loved sitting on a Cape Cod beach; she loved chocolate ice cream and made a damn good lasagna. After retirement, Chris and Ralph traveled frequently, touring all 50 states and England. In recent months, Christine kept her good spirit and interest in life around her. She especially admired and cherished her three granddaughters. Christine is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Anne Tooley Austin and her husband Carlton of Utica, N.Y. and Joanne Marie Tooley (Jodie) of Moscow, Idaho; a son, Stephen Philip Tooley and his wife Jennifer of Florham Park; three grandchildren, Carrie Anne Austin Coromato and her husband Bryan of Utica, N.Y., Rachel Meghan Tooley Freeman and her husband Adam of Chicago, Ill. and Erin Rebecca Tooley of Hoboken, N.J. She is also survived by a brother, Charles Bunnell and his wife Joanne of Hopewell Junction, N.Y. and a sister, Donna Snyder and her husband Peter of Albany, N.Y. Christine was predeceased by her loving husband Ralph, who passed away June 25, 2003. Christine's family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Delmar Place in Delmar, N.Y. and the staff of The Wynwood, Florham Park, for care and compassion shown to Christine during her residences there. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar and are welcome to remain for a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Those wishing to do so may send memorial contributions to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 275 State St., Albany, NY 12210.
