McCarthy, Elizabeth (Miller Venema) RENSSELAER It is with much sadness we record the passing of Elizabeth F. McCarthy, 93 years young, on April 4, 2011. She was born on Dec. 27, 1917 in the city of Rensselaer where she resided her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Rose and David Miller. She was predeceased by her husbands, Harry Venema and John D. McCarthy. Sister of the late Rose Miller, Marion Finkle, Daniel and David Miller. She is survived by her son, James (Betty) Venema; her grandsons, Lance (Daphinie) Venema and Loren (Christine) Venema, all of Rensselaer. Three great-grandchildren Derrick, Ashley and Casey and one great-great-granddaughter Kylie. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth worked for many years at Sterling Winthrop and the NYS Department of Tax and Finance. She enjoyed life, reading, indoor gardening, games of chance, dinners and luncheons and trips with family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Her family would like to thank all the staff at Albany Memorial Hospital for their kindness and care during her time there. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer, Thursday at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, Herrick Street, Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. In lieu of flowers a donation in her memory may be made to the Eddy Visiting Nurses Association, 433 River St. Ste 3000, Troy, NY 12180 would be appreciated.
