Zittel, Rita M. MECHANICVILLE Mrs. Rita M. Zittel, 97, of Stillwater Ave., died Friday, July 1, 2011 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a brief illness. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., March 11 1914, Rita lived in New York City most of her life, moving upstate some time ago. A homemaker who raised a large family, she enjoyed dancing and singing, and the company of her children and grandchildren and their families. She was a former member of the United Irish Senior Citizens of Brooklyn. Her husband, John Albert Zittel died in 1975; and she was also predeceased by her children, Walter, John, Raymond James, Robert and Walter Zittel, who died just hours prior to his mother. Survivors include her seven children, Dorothy (Joe) Rielly, Charles Zittel, and Ellen Zittel all of Mechanicville, Thomas Zittel of Queens, Fred (Louise) Zittel of Brooklyn, Victor Zittel of Las Vegas and Richard (Christine) Zittel of Staten Island; 65 grandchildren, many great-grand and a number of great-great-grandchildren. Also a number of nieces and nephews, especially William and Joan Barrett and Kathy and Tony DePaulo all of Long Island. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 10 a.m., at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville. Calling hours at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in memory of Rita M. Zittel.
