Werger, Marjorie G. WEST SAND LAKE Marjorie G. (Carpenter) Werger, 84, a longtime resident of Werger Road, died peacefully, Monday, October 24, 2011, at the Springs Nursing Home in Troy, following a short illness. Born in Pittstown, September 11, 1927, Mrs. Werger was the daughter of the late Merritt L. and Mildred H. (Becker) Carpenter and the wife for over 45 years of the late Charles J. Werger Esq. who predeceased her in 2006. Mrs. Werger was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and the Oneonta State Teacher's College. For over 30 years she was employed as a teacher at the Poestenkill Elementary School. She retired in the early 1980s. More recently she volunteered for more than 25 years at the Samaritan Hospital gift shop and assisted in setting up fundraising teas and functions. Mrs. Werger was a member of the Pittstown United Methodist Church and the NYS Retired Teachers Association. In her quiet time she was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. Mrs. Werger is survived by a daughter Martha (Kevin) Ezell of Dryden; and two sons, H. Charles (Oneida) Werger of Hampshire, Tenn., and Matt (Dena) Werger Sr. of West Sand Lake; a brother, Neil Carpenter of Troy; a sister, Martha Ducott of South Carolina; five grandchildren, Matthew Ezell, Stephen Ezell, Chris Ezell, Matt Werger Jr. and Joseph Werger; three great-grandchildren, Addie Werger, Cierra Ezell and Vincent Ezell; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, the late Nelson Carpenter, also predeceased her. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Pittstown United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mourice, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, from 3 - 7 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Rt. 7, located in Raymertown. Memorial contributions if desired may be made to either the Pittstown United Methodist Church, 45 Old Rt. 7, Valley Falls, New York 12185 or to the West Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Company, 3697 Rt. 43, West Sand Lake, NY 12196, in memory of Marjorie G. Werger.
