Rubino, Jean S. SCHENECTADY Jean S. Rubino, 101, formerly of Watervliet, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Born in Italy on February 19, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Carmela DiDom-enica Rubino. Jean was a graduate of Watervliet High School class of 1929 where she was valedictorian. She then graduated from the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1931 where she again was class valedictorian. She was employed as a registered nurse at Samaritan Hospital in Troy for almost 40 years before retiring. In her retirement she moved to Miami, and came out of retirement to work at the Villa Maria Nursing Home for 12 years as the head nurse. She was very proud of being a nurse and took care of many prominent people over the years including Brigadier Gen. Ogden Ross, the presidents of RPI and Russell Sage College and famous band leader Vincent Lopez. She loved traveling, cooking, purchasing nice clothes and jewelry and enjoyed parties with her family. She loved watching Lawrence Welk, Diane Sawyer, Andy Rooney and Walter Cronkite. She was a huge New York Yankees baseball fan. She is the beloved sister of Harry (late Frances) Rubino of New Orleans, and Robert (Ruth) Rubino of North Greenbush and the late Helen, Joseph, Charles, John and Frank Rubino. She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Robert's children who were her caregivers, Brian Rubino, Lynn Bernardo, Lauren MacDonald and Robin Massey. At Jean's request, a funeral Mass was held privately at the convenience of the family in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet and her burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. There were no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, 2215 Burdett Ave., Troy, NY 12180.
