Bennett, Barbara K. RENSSELAER Barbara K. Bennett, age 70, of Rensselaer, passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Glens Falls and has resided in Rensselaer for the past 35 years. Barbara was employed as a secretary administrator for the New York Telephone Co., working for the company for 32 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church attending St. John's Church for many years. Mrs. Bennett held many positions at St. John's Church including the pastoral associate for administration at the Parish of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph (SJESJ) in Rensselaer for the past 14 years, after serving as such for the former St. John's Parish for five prior years. Concurrently, Barbara served as the office manager of Holy Sepluchre Cemetery through SJESJ. Barbara also served on the SJESJ pastoral council and finance committee. As a lifelong member of the parish Rosary Altar Society, she served as president for many years. Barbara was a recipient of the 2011 SJESJ Parish Annual Appreciation Award and recognized that same year by the Diocesan Woman's Commission during their "Woman of Faith" celebration. Barbara will be sorely missed by her parish family and cherished co-workers on the parish staff whose lives were touched by her love and devotion. Wife of the late John A. Bennett Jr.; mother of Jacqueline Kemp (Bruce Ward) of Mechanicville; grandmother of Kurtis Mathew Ward; daughter of the late William and Rosemary Kenny; sister of David (Patricia) Kenny of Rutland, Vt., and Ann (Gary) McCoy of Queensbury. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church on Herrick Street in Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
